Editorial Policy
Last updated October 25, 2026
Dog owners make real decisions based on what they read here, so our standards are strict.
Who writes our content
Health, symptom and disease articles are written by or with licensed veterinarians. Behavior and training articles are written by certified trainers and behavior consultants who use reward-based methods. Product reviews are written by our testing team after hands-on use.
Review before publication
Every health, behavior and nutrition article is reviewed by a veterinarian who did not write it. Every article shows its writer and reviewer by name. An author never reviews their own work.
Evidence
We base health content on current peer-reviewed research and the guidance of major veterinary bodies. Where evidence is thin or disputed, we say so rather than pretend certainty.
Product testing
We buy products at retail. Each item is used by at least three dogs of different sizes for at least four weeks before we write about it. We score safety, build quality, value and whether the dogs actually chose to use it. Brands cannot pay for placement or see reviews in advance. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Updates and corrections
We date every article and revisit health content at least once a year. If you spot an error, email hello@vetsexplained.com; we correct mistakes promptly and note significant corrections on the page.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. Advertising and affiliate relationships have no influence on what we cover or what we conclude.
